Senior Leadership Team 2020

Nigel Davis

School Principal

A warm welcome to Wesley Intermediate School. It is a privilege to serve our students, whanau and community in my role as Principal. Our Mission Statement states that we will provide "quality education for lifelong learning". We do this by employing fantastic teachers, encouraging students to have the right attitude, and catering to the full range of the NZ Curriculum. High expectations is a natural part of school life and we aim to have students achieving accelerated progress. Respect for self, others and the environment are the three values for our school, and the students do actually model these. I am thrilled when I hear visitors to the school comment on the 'friendly family feel' that they experience when they come through our front door.

Simon Tafea

Deputy Principal (Study Leave 2020)

Fakalofa Lahi Atu and welcome to Wesley Intermediate school. I have been here for just over 5 years now and I have really enjoyed working with the students and staff here at Wesley.

Learning is important to me so it is very important for our students. One of my key roles is to make sure that all students get the best learning opportunities that can be offered, because that is important for them to be successful as learners.

We are a proud PB4L school. We pride ourselves in teaching our student how to behave. I believe that is important for our students to respect self, respect others and to respect the environment. .

Just a little bit about me: Samoan Kiwi

Born and raised in Auckland with proud connections to Samoa and American Samoa. My parents are from Lufilufi, Lepea- Samoa. I'm married to Larissa who has Samoan and Tuvalu connections and we have two beautiful kids - Mose and Psalms.

Responsibility: SENCO/Student Support

I enjoy bringing together whanau and community agencies to maximise the potential of our students. I love being part of a school who believes in 'student-whanau voice'. Building strong home-school partnerships and teacher-student relationships is important for our learners because they are at the heart of everything we do at WIS.

My door is always open for visits and to have a conversation about helping our whanau/aiga.

I was born in NZ - Auckland and thanks to my beautiful parents, I am part Niuean, Samoan, Tahitian & Cook Island.

I lived in Peru and Boliva for 4 years which is why I speak Spanish. I have been teaching for 13 years and I have had the priviledge of being part of the Wesley Intermediate School for 6 years. Other roles include Head of Curriculum, Head of Maths, Inquiry team, PB4L team, student leaders, Visual Art teacher, Cols within school associate and coaching a range of sport.

It is vital that our Wesley Intermediate students are confident learners, risk takers, problem solvers and hard workers. This is a responsibility I take very seriously. I strive to foster this in a school and class environment where academic and social learning is relevant, authentic and motivating.

Working with motivated and hardworking staff is a why we are so successful. I am blessed to be part of a holistically driven team who consider the needs, culture, interests and aspirations of learners, families and our community within education at Wesley Intermediate School.
