Principal's Message

As the Principal at Wesley Intermediate School, I am pleased to welcome you and your child to our school. In recent years visitors to the school have been impressed with the 'family spirt' within the school. Most have been very surprised by what they see and many have said "I never knew the school was this good". They have found the students engaged in a range of activities and were impressed with the students behaviour and the learning that was taking place. I'm pleased to say that approximately 90% of the families that come in and visit our school, go on to enrol their child here.

The school environment has been redeveloped with the school being part of the Ako Hiko Education Cluster, and we have converted most of the learning areas into e-learning/digital classrooms with modern learning environments. Even the food and fabric technology rooms and the music areas, that were upgraded more than five years ago, are still in pristine condition.

These are exciting times to be associated with Wesley Intermediate School. We have an innovative partnership with Te Whangai Trust who have developed a tree nursery at our school. We also have "Critical" (Innovative Business Company) based in our workshop who support students and staff with technology studies.

At Wesley, we believe that it is our responsibility to equip your child to become a valued and constructive member of our society. The staff at the school strive to deliver the very best in academic, sports and cultural activities while all the time providing your child with a balanced programme. We aim to recognise the individual strengths of every member within the school.

One of our strengths here at Wesley is to prepare students for Secondary school. We often receive excellent feedback from former students, parents and teachers from local secondary schools that tell us we are successful in achieving this.

The two years spent at intermediate school are critical in your child's development at a time of rapid emotional and physical growth. We endeavour to give students an opportunity to develop personal interests, self confidence and self-awareness. Greater independence, is promoted and every opportunity is taken to encourage creativity through a wide variety of activities. Your child will have two years of opportunity and challenge; a time to try new experiences, and time to extend their own personal learning boundaries.

We are a PB4L school and expect high standards and strong discipline. This ensures thats students of varying ages and ethnic origin are able to work together in a safe, secure and supportive environment.

Personally, I believe that teaching the core subjects well, in particular Mathematics and English, integrating technology into classroom programmes, and providing a safe environment for learning is what education is all about - and as a father, that is what I wanted for my own children.
