Level 3 Lockdown Message To Parents
The good news: We are moving down to Level 3 in Auckland.
The sad news: Schools are not open for everyone.
Under Level 3 restrictions, Wesley Intermediate School will open for a small number of students from Wednesday 22 September where the parents must go to work, and there is no other option available for anyone to care for them.
The school day will be from 9.00am - 2.50pm.
Students will need to bring their own snacks, lunch and a drink bottle. If they have their own chromebook or are using a school device from home, they will need to bring this with them.
Face coverings can be worn, but they are not a mandatory requirement for intermediate schools.
Social Distancing rules, and hygiene standards will be strictly followed on the school site. This means we will regularly clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces, encourage everyone to frequently wash their hands and cover their coughs and sneezes, and keep everyone physically distanced from others as much as possible (one metre inside and two metres outside). We will also keep school bubbles to no more than 10 students.
Our contact tracing systems will be in place, which includes our attendance register and visitor register. We will be limiting staff onsite with the majority of our staff working from home. Please note online teaching and learning will continue as it has for the past four weeks.
Students coming via car can be dropped off in the school car park, and then they are to make their way to the hygiene station just inside the main entrance of the school. Sorry, parents are not allowed into the school buildings under Level 3 conditions.
We do ask that you contact your classroom teacher if you are considering sending your child to school so that we have an area prepared for them. When making this decision I do need to remind you that our Prime Minister has stated that the school is only open for children of parents who must go to work, and there is no other option available for anyone to care for them.
At the present time Mr Davis and Mr Tafea are the only staff timetabled to interact with any students coming into the school site.
Please note, if you are needed at work and your child is unwell (even if they only have a cough or runny nose), they are not allowed to attend school. If children have COVID-like symptoms you should call your doctor or Healthline on 0800 358 5453 for advice about getting tested.
Moving to Level 3 is a welcome step, and we look forward to moving to Level 2 at the start of Term 4, however this will only happen if we adhere to the Level 3 requirements.
We should be proud of how we have responded to this outbreak, but the mahi isn’t yet done. As you have been doing, please continue to follow all the alert level requirements at Alert Level 3 and stay at home. It is the best tool we have to keep our whānau and community safe.
